Ultimate Reasons We Need Less Plastic More Nature

Plastic has become part of our daily lives and it would be a huge challenge to avoid it altogether. But our consumption of plastic is not just limited to human consumption. It is also used for other purposes such as packaging and wrapping food, vegetables, fruits, etc. From the moment we wake up until we go to bed, we use different products that contain plastic.

However, the more plastic is being consumed by us, the more polluting our environment and nature.

In this blog, let’s look at a few reasons why we need to ditch plastic as much as possible and embrace eco-friendly alternatives.

3 Reasons Why We Need to Reduce Our Plastic Usage

Reason #1: Plastic Is Full of Nasty Chemicals

Plastics are made from oil, natural gas, and coal, which are treated with many different chemicals to give them the properties we want for a specific use. These chemicals can include:

  • Phenols which can be toxic and cause cancer if inhaled or absorbed through the skin;
  • Phthalates which are endocrine disruptors (can affect your hormones);
  • BPA has been linked to health problems such as infertility, early puberty, increased body fat, heart disease, and diabetes.

Reason #2: Plastic Doesn’t Decompose Easily

Plastic Doesn’t Decompose Easily

Plastic takes thousands of years to decompose, but even the decomposition process is bad for nature because chemicals are released into the air and soil, which can cause harm to other organisms.

So what happens when plastic doesn’t decompose for a long time?

Well, it starts piling up in landfills or ends up in oceans and rivers where it washes ashore on beaches and harms animals as well as humans.

Plastic is not biodegradable and it has remained in the environment for centuries. This means that every plastic bottle or plastic bag you’ve used still exists — somewhere.

Reason #3: Plastic Causes Harm to Life on Earth

Plastics are in almost everything – our clothes, furniture, cars, food packaging, drink bottles and even in the very air we breathe!

If we continue to use plastic at the current rate, there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050. In addition, the mass use of plastics will eventually affect human health both through food chains and through direct contact with chemicals contained in plastics.

Although plastics take thousands of years to degrade, they decompose into smaller pieces over time. These smaller pieces are called microplastics and are a big problem for our environment.

Microplastics are eaten by marine life, which affects them negatively as they can be toxic to them. We also consume microplastics unknowingly through our water supply and food. In this way, microplastics can end up in our food chain and affect us.

So, we must reduce plastic consumption to protect ourselves from these harmful effects.

How Can You Replace Plastic with Natural Alternatives?

How Can You Replace Plastic with Natural Alternatives?

We are living in a world where we can’t survive without plastics. Plastic is everywhere and it has become a necessity for us. We cannot imagine our life without plastic. It is used in our daily used items like a water bottle, pen, lunch box, plates, clothes, bags, and many more.

But there are some simple things we can all do to help reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills or floating around our oceans.

Here are some tips on how to replace plastic with more eco-friendly options and lay a small foundation to a sustainable life:

  • Reduce your use of plastic containers and bags by storing food in glass containers or reusable cloth bags.
  • Bring your own bag to the grocery store and say no to the plastic bags offered at checkout.
  • Use reusable bottles and containers for storing beverages and food in the fridge or when packing lunch to go.
  • Avoid buying frozen dinners and prepackaged foods because these often use a lot of plastic packaging.
  • Avoid buying products that come with a lot of excess packaging. Instead, choose brands that use less packaging or are packed in paper or cardboard boxes instead of plastic wrap or Styrofoam blocks.
  • Use rechargeable batteries in your electronic devices rather than disposable ones.
  • Buy products in bulk from the bulk bins at grocery stores using cloth produce bags or jars to avoid single-use plastic packaging.
